Yet again, trigger happy policemen have killed two unarmed Nigerian citizens in Lagos. When will all these senseless killings ever end? In our moment of anger, we must never take the laws into our hands no matter how attractive or tempted we become. In the recent past, the Police have shown the desire to rid itself of bad eggs, therefore, I do not support calls for jungle justice of any kind #DeathSentenceforKillerPolice
We cannot say all policemen in the country are bad. There are some good ones. The bad eggs outnumber the good ones no doubt but since every time, Nigerians have demanded action to arrest and prosecute erring officers, it’s been done. We need to work more on institutional reforms.
We need to push for concrete institutional reforms. We must begin to place premium on psychiatric evaluation before police recruitment. Also we must push for reforms that will end extortion and harassment of citizens.
A nation where “an eye for an eye” is the culture will soon become a Republic of the Blind. Therefore, we must all condemn the narrative gaining momentum in the country of jungle justice for erring police officers. God bless Nigeria.
